Through Christ & community, 10:12 Sports is a ministry using athletics to provide discipleship, leadership development, and job training opportunities to teenage males. 10:12 empowers our community church partners and leaders to mentor youth through Christ, developing servant leaders and successful decision-makers who commit to healthy lifestyles. We are currently in the process of building and strengthening a team that embraces that mindset.

Job Description

In partnership with the Sports Ministry Coordinator, the year–long Intern is responsible for assisting in ensuring a high–quality mentoring program leading to participant development, retention, and engagement. While there is a focus on program operations, this role heavily emphasizes discipleship and the ability to flourish in relationship building, embodying many aspects of urban missions. The Intern will be joining a small but mighty team, and therefore (as indicated below) is expected to step into a diverse set of responsibilities. Housing will be provided for this internship, along with a small stipend.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations Management (65%)

  • Actively mentoring participants and encouraging a culture of servant leadership

  • Providing ongoing support to volunteer coaches 

  • Leading/helping to lead various program activities with excellence and consistency

  • Assisting in the recruitment and registration process for 10:12 Sports Programs

  • Communicating with coaches and players to maximize attendance and ensure the program is run with excellence and consistency

  • Supporting all job training and leadership development activities

  • Supporting other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Sports Ministry Coordinator

    • Assisting in successfully operating our Summer Leadership Program.

Program Development (5%)

  • Assisting in the further development of the content and structures of 10:12 Sports programs

  • Contributing to the quarterly program and annual program reviews

  • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, churches and volunteers

Ongoing Education (20%)

  • Engaging in learning about/participating in “Community Living”

  • Participating in ongoing education related to urban ministry (workshops, site visits, literature..)

Marketing and Fundraising (10%)

  • Assisting in the marketing of 10:12 Sports programs and events

  • Engaging in fundraising activities to ensure the financial health of the organization

  • Supporting all planning, marketing, and implementation of the annual 10:12 Sports Banquet and Silent Auction event

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Person of integrity, actively walking out their Christian faith

  • Strong passion for mentorship and servant leadership

  • Strong interest in youth development

  • Ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to youth, volunteers, and staff

  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments

  • Ability to work nights and weekends (as needed) as well as a flexible schedule

  • Leadership, planning, and organization skills

  • Conflict management and resolution skills

  • Alignment with 10:12 Sports’ mission and core values

  • High School Diploma Required

Timeline and Compensation

The year–long Internship is a full–time position. 10:12 Sports is accepting applications on a rolling basis currently. 10:12 Sports is an organization that is adaptive to the needs of its students and community. Due to this, the year–long intern may not be working a typical schedule. HOUSING WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THIS INTERNSHIP, ALONG WITH A SMALL STIPEND.

APPLICANTS ACCEPTED FOR THE INTERNSHIP MAY BE ASKED TO SUBMIT A $50 REFUNDABLE PROGRAM FEE, WHICH WILL BE REIMBURSED ON DAY 1 OF THE INTERNSHIP.
